My third and 4th leafs sprouted at the same time, the only difference is one is wrapped around the other, planted today, I just guessed which was first and planted it.

Rich, I had the same question too. From searching on here, if you have double leave at each node, it is a double vine instead of altering sides at each node. Sometimes, you can see 2 distinct vines in the one. If you suspect it, give it tons of water, I have read that this can help it grow out of it. I still can't tell if my 525 is one or not. The first true leaf had a twin, then it started producing individual leaves, and now it looks like more twins.

My 1056 has the same problem. I was just out looking at it and now it has about a 1" crack in it. I just don't have the heart to kill it. It's a beautiful plant.

Crack? Paralell with vine or perpendicular? See J.D's diary, his stump split wide open after going double.

It's parallel. I fibbed a bit. It's only about 1/2 an inch. Below the crack on the vine it's relly looking tough and aged, like it has been around for a while. Sort of lighter in color. Almost white. I think I will keep it around for a while just to see what happens. Thanks, I'll check out the diary.

Splits paralell are fairly common. In just my couple years, about 50% of my plants get splits at the base, but don't go all the way through. My 1244 has one now, and I just put a little Captan (fungicide) on it. Give it time.

I think I will give it more time. Looking at it this morning the crack looks a little longer, but overall it looks like it is callousing up and healing. It is not as severe as JD's in his diary picture. Thanks for the encouragement.
