Does anyone else have a Sparrow problem in there patch? The Sparrows give themselves dirt baths right near the plant, and pick bugs off the leaves but doing so they damage the leaves with little tares. Last year I had the same problem and put netting above the patch. The netting worked a bit but I also caught sparrows all the time and I cant keep doing that.
Any other ways to manage the Sparrows?

To be honest with you I try to attract birds to my patch.I think they have to be the cheapest labourer you can get.I put up boxes to attract blue birds and swallows, sparrows and wrens are also great at removing bugs.Try putting some kind of lid around the outside of the patch you can fill with water, it might help to stop the dirt baths. I am also have flocks of sparrows hitting my plants and putting holes all over them...at first I couldn't figure what was going on...but makes sense with the bugs as they were sitting on the leaves...maybe spraying more will stop it.

I put up some poles and ran fishing line in-between them. The birds kept running into it and freaked them out so they quit landing on the leaves.

I have what I think is sparrow damage also. Check out my diary for 6/23/12 starting with entry 55. The leaves were fine this morning and when I checked on the plants early this afternoon this is what I had.
