We had a bit of an irrigation fiasco here last week. The only females that were on the main of the 707Toftness have now all died. Can someone look at my diary photo & let me know what they think this is? I know my foliar disease. I'm OK with fruit rots too. But this is a new one on me.
Thanks,
Steve

Not sure if it's the same thing we have down here Steve but we often have immature females rot like that on very hot days. I always thought it was a very early term abortion.

OK. Here's the picture.

It almost appears to be a form of blossom end rot. But I can find no documented cases where the fruit is attacked prior to set.

Any ideas?

Looks like a simple abort to me. Cut it off and get it out of the patch.

Maybe it was too hot and the females were not covered?
My last far-out-on-the-main females about 10 days ago looked like this, and it was not wet. No more pollinations since then.

They weren't covered last week but it wasn't terribly hot either. Less than 2 miles from here we have had only 1 unintended abort at my son's school. Fertility program is nearly identical between the 2 locations.

My weather collection system leaves a bit to be desired. I have been relying on a state website for this information when I'm not here to collect the data myself. But they haven't made an entry since July 3rd. So for the week 7-19 thru 7-26 I can only guess for now.

I'll have to send Bart an email. He has a decent weather station.
