looks like a baby, if it is the longhorn, you should call someone, worcester mass had thousands of trees cut down because of them, here is a video about them, honestly i could not watch the whole video.............scott. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaVxIcmrG1I

I think it is a wood boring beetle of some type, it doesn't really look like an asian longhorned beetle based on the pictures I have seen. I would do a search on boring insects and base the search on the type of trees around your house and neighborhood. There are many, many types of wood boring beetles. At the very least I doubt they are any threat to your pumpkin patch.

The other day I found a beetle in my yard that was 2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide...big long strong pinchers...never saw anything like it before..any ideas

A bug expert sent me this.
The insect on the website is a Flower Longhorn, possibly the Banded Longhorn, ​Typocerus velutinus, ​based on photos posted to BugGuide. Adults eat nectar and pollen, so they are likely beneficial in that they will help to pollinate the pumpkins. Larvae feed on decaying hardwood such as oak.

I had someone look at the picture who is better than me at identifying bugs and they think it is a "notch tipped flower longhorned beetle"
