Joe, I had what appeared to be pythium, wiped out our entire patch, but didn't have th $$ at the time for lab tests. But all of the affected plants had rotted roots when pulled in August. Tremmor gave me some ideas to improve the situation. The cures are as follows: 1. Improve your drainage. I dug drainage ditches so that I ended up with raised, 2 plant growing beds. 2. Use Alliette or Agri-Fos. 3. I planted a fall cover crop of dwarf essex rape. I later learned that brassicas such as rape or groundhog radish have a natural alleopathic effect on soil borne diseases. All of this cured my problem starting in 2008. Didn't have another flare up until a minor one this year due to over watering in the worst heat wave in memory and missing an Alliette application.

Subdue or Ridomil as a drench is highly recommended. Pythium is our #1 disease problem here. I use Ridomil as a drench and Aliette / Agri-Fos / TKO as foliar sprays.
You cannot stop it in my experience. If you see symptoms you are done.

I also started using Jobes Organics and Espoma Starter Plus fertilizers that have a whole bunch of different beneficial bacteria and fungi. I mix it with micorhizae and use it in the planting hole and at root/leaf nodes. I think I helps.

I use Actinovate for pythium as well. And about 10 other things...lol.
John for Ridomil read the label. I never apply anything at anything but the labeled rate.
I think a pint costs in the $140 range and will last a grower for at least a few years.

generally...increase your soil ph to 7.2.....try not to over nitrogen the soil with manures....try not to over wet your soils.....banrot works some, but dont know what funguses it really worked over, just noticed overall improvement. Dont think there is a cure....just steps that make it less overwhelming. JM2cents

Don't skip an application. I did in this year's heat and we are paying for it. One plant down, another one starting to show the first signs of the root rot.
