Came home yesterday to find my biggest pumpkin ever go down to a stem spit on day 36. I don't think there was any stress on the main vine so I have no idea what happened. It was warmer the last two days and I put on a little more water but the growth was only around 25lbs per day. I did let it get a little more sun yesterday to warm things up so maybe that was a mistake. Any ideas about what could cause this would be greatly appreciated so maybe I can prevent it from happening in the future. I've lost a good one two years in a row to exactly the same type of split

Not sure if this is the issue or can help. Have you tried mill fabric under the pumpkin along with beach sand to help the fruit slide. That has helped me with stem stress. Ive always eliminated any stem issues before culling down if possible.

Don't need stem stress to make a pumpkin split , if it's growing faster than the fruit can physically grow SOMETHING' S gonna give . Blossom , stem area , rib .
