This will be the 3rd year in a row that my fruit has gone down. 1st phytopthora, 2nd rib split, 3rd soft spot. I've battled mosaic virus since the mid of August and now my last hope of having anything went down at 400lbs to a soft spot. I know everyone says this hobby is challenging, but this many years in a row.. Lots of money and time down the drain, sad part is that I won't quit.

Sounds just like my growing pains. Keep saying I am giving up. Had one out of four make it to 450. Was going along fine, bam within a week here comes phytopthora. Kinda sucks , alot of time ,money and sweat. For what? Going to concentrate next year on funcides and less on ferts . To far to turn back know.

DHertz- Not saying it is related but I had a plant with mosaic virus and the one pumpkin I was fighting to keep going developed a soft spot and rotted a week before the weigh-off.
The key part is to learn something every year, and be glad this is not your main source of income.

Matt, are there any measures I can take from having the same issue next year with mosaic?

The best method would be to determine the exact virus you have by sending a sample to a professional lab to get screened. (here is that source of spending again;-) This will allow to to focus on precises control of a virus or two.
The low cost method would be to remove area weeds to reduce the local pressure. Read over a post I made earlier in the season to find out what to look for...

From what I read most should not carry over all that well, so hopefully you will be starting clean next year.
