Hi all,
I've been using daconil to control powdery mildew but lately it hasn't been working like it should. Hot and humid here for the past couple weeks. Any suggestions as to what else I might try?

maybe i spelled it worng. i have to see if i can find that paper with the spelling on it. i wrote it down a few years back........i looked up that baking soda remedy........the ratio is 1 tsp. of baking soda to 1 quart of water sprayed on the leaves. now i've never used this before, so i dont know if it works. i got if off the mallorn archives. i remembered reading about it in there and just looked it up. good luck, and i'll keep hunting for that other stuff.1

I guess that 1 glass of milk to a gallon of water will do the job......Chris

good to see someone else in the south trying their luck. i have used (a lot) of copper sulfate on (a lot of) powdery mildew, and it works to some degree although it can burn the leaves if you mix it too strong. i have read that daconil does not control all strains of powdery mildew, but have not used it myself. i too have also heard that baking soda solutions like the one suggested can help, as well as compost tea (yuk!) and something called bordeax mix if you want to try more organic approaches. good luck, let me know how you do.

Yo Pappy,
Bordeax mixture is copper sulphate and lime..used here for potato blight.

Green Light fruit and vegetable spray is a Neem oil that should help with mildew. I like to rotate sprays so the fungus is exposed to different things that are deadly to them every couple weeks. Weather plays a big factor with mildew. A lot of folks believe that using a folair application of liquid seaweed fertilizer helps make the plants more resistant as well. I use a lot of kelp last season and had now problems with powedery mildew on my AG's. The Cinderellas were affected by it still. AG's are somewhat more resistant than many other varieties. Some rosarians I know are using a new product called Erase for powdery mildew on roses. They say its very effective and can remove mildew from infected leaves which goes way beyond anything else I know of. Not sure where to get it other than an agricultural supply house. Out here it's United Horticultural Supply. Agway may have it too. No clue on price, probably not cheap as it's new and reportedly works.

Too much moisture on your leaves, the same thing that causes mildew in bathrooms.
