what does everyone do for this....mine is only on the surface, and it just gets mushy in spots...it keeps spreading, i've had the fan on it and different fungicides and tried a bleach solution too. it won't stop spreading, and i can't get it to dry out.

From the rot I have experienced,,its because the soil is too wet..If your rot is happening to a vine which has been covered,<I would suggest to uncover at least half of vine..I mean take dirt off top portion to vine so it can breathe,,get fresh air...Hope this helps...

Brigitte, I have this same problem and used Dacanele (not sure on the spelling. This helped some but it still continues after two weeks.Since my fair is this week I culled two pumpkins to better treat the problem. Once cut off the mushy stem dried out.Jeff

sulfur powder helps stop stem/vine rot .
i use a car wash mitt.with a plastig bag inside.
wet it down and give yor pumpkin a light film.
i rubbed paste in the stem and flower "joints".
makes slugs dry right up.

could imbalanced ferts cause mushy vines?

Briggitte, I know how frustrating this is. I've been in private communication with several others who are going through this. We're not ready to try this in practical use, but the idea of using a medical syringe to inject an antibiotic (or a fungicide) directly into the affected area might offer some relief. Once a rot causing pathogen is in the vascular system, conventional fungicies don't stand a chance. Even systemics can't travel down roads (vascular tubes) that are blocked by the enemy.
Excising the rotted area & destroying the causal pathogen "might" check it's advance. But once the vascular tubes are destroyed we can't regrow them. I suppose the best we can do now is prevent further loss. Have you tried a gentle scraping of the rotten tissue prior to treatment? If not then don't do it at my advice!!! I don't want to own further damage if the vine goes down for good.

CAN A FUNGICIDE BE INTRODUCED INTO THE VASCULAR,,ARTERIES?,
THROUGH THE ROOT/S?
MY INJECTIONS OF NEATODES CAUSED ALOT OF DAMAGE.
AND I STUCK THE LEAF BASE MOSTLY. BUT I GOT BIG PUMPKINS.

CLOULD YOU ALTER THE PH OF THE PLANT TO KILL THE FUNGI?

IF I GET THIS MUCH RAIN NEXT YEAR I AM GOING TO RAISE MOLDS MUSHROOMS AND MORELS. WE HAD A DROUGHT LAST YEAR!

HOW ABOUT A FUNGICIDE IN THAT POLYMER WATERBASED "GEL". LIKE A POLTICE?
I USED SOME AS A WATER HEDGE AGAINST DRY WEEKS.
GOOD STUFF. AND IT BREAKS DOWN.
