I usually use the powder sevin on my plants but am considering using the liquid ... I've been having tons of insect problems this year . any input would be great ...

I prefer the liquid concentrate that you mix in a tank sprayer. It is easier and cheaper to spray when the plant gets larger and you can spray under the leaves which you can't do as easily with dust. I prefer bifen I/T for insects, seems a little stronger than 7. I have found the bugs to become somewhat resistant to 7 if that is all you use so it is a good idea to rotate. Plus I don't think 7 is listed for use against svb's although they probably don't like it. A systemic like merit should also be used.

I quit using Sevin because it didn't do the job. Generic versions of Talstar and Merit work MUCH better.

Liquid sevin was my emergency backup this year. Bifenthrin was only a minor inconvenience for a day or two for the bugs even at double the label rate. Sevin wiped out the whole population of cuke beetles DEAD for about a week until I could get some of the stuff I normally use.

Sevin will not touch the SVBs, and I believe the sevin runoff is bad for worms. But it you need the satisfaction of seeing tons of cuke beetles belly up on your leaves the following morning, hit it with the liquid sevin.

A warning to new growers - be careful with Sevin powder as it can burn your leaves if applied too heavily. A little goes a long way with this stuff

I have also heard from the Building Pest Inspection unit that the Sevin powder if applied in excess can indeed burn your plants, so be careful.
