Hi All,
I had to cut my main vine at about 20ft out.
I have a kin about 17ft out.
I had no other choice (the entire growth end of my vine was rotted and waterlogged).
I cut the vine and let it dry out - now what? Business as usual?
I'm hoping that the secondary vine growth can make up for this loss!

Lots of people cut their main vine at the pumpkin for position reasons and grow monsters. You should be fine.

Apply captan or equivelant on the end of the section cut.

This year, I cut the main at the pumpkin due to the vine position. It was putting pressure on the shoulder of the pumpkin so I cut it.
I took the secondaries immediately before the pumpkin and swung them around to the open area of the patch to fill it in. Same square footage, just all between the stump and the pumpkin. We will see how it works.
