My plant had a fast spreading infection that took out the stem on my pumpkin. It caused it to rot.
I decided to pull the entire plant and start planning for next year.
When pulling the vine, decided to pull some of the large roots and examine them. I noticed what appeared to be littel clusters of tiny green aphids. If you wanted them long enough, you could see that they were moving.
I did not know that aphids could live on roots underground.
How can I control them? Is there something I can put on the soil, now that the plant is gone, to kill the ones that are currently in the soil and possibly their eggs?

Sorry for they typo... I didn't mean "wanted", rather I meant "watch".

Pumpkin envy. I had those little buggers on some summer squash early on. The plants were wilting really bad and I pulled the plant and found them there on the roots. It was the first I have ever seen them too.

From the beginning of July to the end of my season, I noticed wilting during the brightest parts of the day; not when it was hot. The vine actually wilted when it was bright out. It was sunlight related, not temp related, as it would happen on cool days as well as hot days.
I suspect they had something to do with that.
