After doing much research, I settled on a Stihl 450 mister/blower. Other brands may be cheaper but don't last as long.

See if you can find one second hand. Expensive, but worth the $$.

I use the backpack sprayer for foliar fertilizers so often that I do not need any fogger. Please feed birds: they will eat up most larvae of bugs. But do not spray insecticides in the family garden! In Europe I grow with actinovate from the USA, cause it is not available here. Actinovate helps me to prevent bacterioses and fungal diseases. And I fight bacterial and fungal diseases on imported seeds with food chemistry. I really do not need any fogger!

I wish you a better growing year with more time left to grow really big edible pumpkins in 2014, LIpumpkin! I have seen the snails in your diary now, and i have to tell you that these tiny little air-breathing grove snails or brown-lipped snails Cepaea nemoralis come from Europe to the USA. Do you want to get some good pumpkin seed for free to grow 20 to 52lbers fine food, then mail to ludwig.ammer@gmail.com please.

Oh, if it´s http://idtools.org/id/mollusc/images/fs_images/bradybaena_simil_jx6.jpg
and not Cepaea nemoralis...
it would be a serious pest like the slugs who ate up my AGs in May and early June this year.

on topic: I have a stihl Br 420 and wouldnt think of getting anything other than this or the current model if i had a plot big enough to allow its use...great on peach trees also (it is an orchard fogger btw).
Off topic: As i mentioned and corrected you earlier today Amelio, and for other's interested -it is the Asian Tramp Snail (Bradybaena similiaris, Ferussac,1821)...a serious imported pest that will eat all your veggies and ornamentals if allowed. Now Amelio,I can understand the mis-identification based upon size. I did not have a scale in the pic but Cepaea nemoralis is about 4 times larger than the Asian Tramp Snail.C.nemoralis has a brown lip edge though...no brown lip edges in diary photo.....

Thank you for your erudition, G.

I assume you use the 420 in conjunction with boiler sand to prevent and treat diseases of the cucurbitaceae.

In my area the price for the 450 stihl is about $720.00 plus tax. I think this is going to be my Christmas present from me to me.

Yeah, the Stihls are expensive, but they go on and on and on. The cheaper brands, from what I read, time and time again, break down within the space of a couple years, usually needing repairs that cost 1/4 to 1/3 the price of a new model.

Try to find a used Stihl anywhere. People usually hold unto them until they are REALLY shot.

Oh, I´m hatless, LipUmpkin. But if I had a hat, I would doff it for sure now, although the mentioned snail from Europe is only double the width of your´s in Florida.
