My pumpkin is about 400 pounds, and has developed splits up by the stem that are very thin and about 4 inches long. These are on what I would call the shoulders of the pumpkin. Should I harvest it now?

The shoulder area normally is the thickest part of the fruit, splits in that area are common and in most cases, not an issue. I wouldn't harvest it but, I would apply some captan or sulphur fungicide....maybe a fan a couple hours per day.
