The next time I hear someone say we won't have much of a bug problem this year coming off a brutal cold winter will get punched in the mouth. If I see someone post this, they will get a virtual punch in the mouth. Apparently the bugs in my neck of the woods have been waiting on a cold winter, they're having a banner year.

But I hardly have any weeds this year....hmmmmmm.....lmao.

lol, seems the -10 we had one day in January just pissed ours off here too. Vine borers are awful this year. They have to be on their 3rd cycle.

Cold winters in Kentucky and Missouri aren't like cold winters in Iowa and farther north. Quite a few days of -20 and colder. So far I have seen only 1 Japanese beetle, and no cucumber beetles or squash bugs. Deer flies and skeeters are another story. After all the rain they will try to carry you away.

I am thinking about building a 20L x 20W x 6H screened structure over a plant or two next year. I have lost 4 plants to YVD this year.....

The mosquitos are terrible this year,I guess all the snow melting created a lot of standing water for breeding. How ever cuc beettles are real low.The Svbs are low in count.I bet there wont be many bugs this winter.lol

Ugh...... I can only dream about growing without squash bugs. Kill them all.

cold is relative. water pipes and sewers were freezing 15 ft deep along roads, but under 3 ft of early snow, the ground wasn't even frozen in the fields this winter. I don't think anyone south of I-80 has a winter, y'all just have a long fall. ;-)

Over the 30 plus years I have been growing, I see no correlation between the severity of the winter and the population of insect pests. "Plant a garden and they (The insects) will come."

Sorry I didn't mean to sound so gruff.
