It is apparent that the stuff I bought to kill the darn things isn't working, going back (I don't care how many stores it takes) to get sevarin this weekend. I used to try to not them off and squash em. Then I was going to try to put them in a jar and spray them until they died, but that was too slow. So I put a couple in a glass jar, put the lid on, and every couple of minutes shook them, then left the jar on the deck, in 100 degree heat and kill them, it was hard to keep adding to the jar, one would always get a away, so then I filled it half way with water. and drown them, shortly after putting them in, while they are swimming around in the water, I shake it.....Karen

Karen,

i haven't seen one cucumber beetle all season and we live within a few mile of each other. My problem is the Deadly Squash Vine Borers. They are so ugly!!!

Bruiser,
It was Bayer Advanced Lawn & Garden Multi-Insect Killer. I got it, because I had a hard time finding Sevarin in my area. But not now, one glance at the weekend paper, and Ace Hardware has it on sale.

These beetles look as if they are multiply there are so many of them. They are eating the petals of my sunflowers too, and there are more of them in my flowers then there are bees.
C.C. - Have you had to spray for bugs at all? Just keep the borers on your side of the river. And I won't seend the annoying beetles your way. :) Karen

karen-

Have you ever tried Diazonon for these pesky Cucumber Beetles? I use it and it kills them quick. Nothing like seeing their little corpses in the morning. He He. I also use this on my Mammoth Giant sunflowers.

I used Ortho "Bug B Gone" powder on mine and they disappeared from my plants right away.

My husband picked up some Sevin powder, while I was at work the other day (real work, not fun work like in the patch), I would have preferred teh spray for more even application. The beetles are gone now, for how long i don't know.

I purchased some Sevin in liquid form from our local farmers coop. It comes in 2.5 gallon container. Mix one quart per 70 gallons of water. I use this to spray acres of pumpkins. When I was done spraying the field the bugs on the plants that I started on were dead.
You can also get it in powder form. Don't get it from a local store, it's not the same strength. Get it from a LARGE farmers coop.

Ahhh, I've been there. Not sure if Pa. is the state capitol of the cucumber beatle but we have our share, striped, spotted..all rotten. I love capturing them (find mostly in the big flowers) and squish them. Then I glue them on a board with big letters that says, "WHO'S NEXT?" Last year I had over 50 on the board. Good results with Sevin once a week even at the expense of the bees...sorry bee lovers.
