I have rats in my chicken coop that don't like peanut butter or bacon. Does anyone have a can't resist bait for me to try.

I glue a pumpkin seed to the trap mechanisim..when he goes to get it, well its glued down...
I also put peanut butter wrapped in a piece of pantyhose nylon, tie it to the mechanism and their teeth get caught in the nylon...
Make sure you put the trap along the wall.
I have also put a live trap right at the hole, cover it so its dark and well, in it goes.
Good Luck,
When you have chickens you will have rats.

Yep, on a dirty jobs episode they were catching rats, the exterminator said to always put traps against walls, as the run right up against them.

Still use peanut butter, but have it acting as the glue for Cheezits and various nuts. I never leave any traps in the open either.

Just one bite bait bars works wonders. You can use wire to tie them to a nail so they have to eat it on the spot. Just put where chickens will not get the left overs.

Problem with poison bars is if hawks, mammals etc feed on the rat after it eats enough to kill it.

Industrial Rat trap: 55 gallon barrel baited with grain and a broken egg. place against a wall and run a board to the top. rats jump in but can't jump out. I have caught up to 20 a night. once you catch them you can toss in a bait bar to finish them and bury or burn the bodies so your pets don't get poisioned.

I use peanut butter and raisins on mice, with success.

Medford, That may explain why I don't catch any rats with bubble gum. I am intrigued with the industrial method if a 55 gallon drum noted further up the thread. I'll have to try that.

Don, Using this method to deal with rodents looks like a lot of fun. But, I don't know if I would use it to take care of the rats in Russ's chicken coop! Well, on second thought, it might get the hens to lay eggs all at once.

Well, part of the time. I chase them out of my barn and into my neighbor's bamboo thicket, then he chases them back. So, I've got 'part time' rats.
