My 996 Haist is wilting from the end of the main back. Vine is soft on under side. I went back 3 or 4 secondarys and cut the main but the vine still appeared brownish on the inside. Any chance of saving the plant? In my heart I want it to live but in my mind I know its probably toast. Any input is appreciated.

You can try by removing the bad rotten spots and drying what you can. It maybe that you will be growing the squash off side vine roots.

Andy the condition sounds fatal based on my experience but if you think it will help I can send you some heritage and subdue to battle the possible soil disease.

Yeah, I know its probably a wasted effort. I've had similar vine disease in the past but it usually starts from the stump out. The only possible good thing is the only big squash I have on the plant is on the first secondary. Doesn't look like there will be a green plaque this year!
