Yo John,
I use washing-up liquid in the sprayer..it bungs up their breathing tubes..kills the little blighters...does no harm to plants etc...and its cheap.

Yo Greenhorn,
About the same mix as you use in the sink..if it gets the grease off the crockery it gets the aphids off the plant. If it leaves any residue on the plants foliage..just wash it off the next day...no harm done. As for the weather..been a bit crappy for the last week...sunny days expected again after the weekend.

Ladybugs will get rid of the aphids, also you could find a mild aphid killer designed for roses at your local store...Karen

Aphids are loading up on my peppers but only thing around my pumpkins are gnats or something. Every morning the last few days the leaves are nearly covered with them, all dead.

Seen a ladybug eat a gnat ot fruit fly on my corn next to the pumpkins so I ordered 2000 ladybugs from planetnatural.com for $8.25 including mailing. They should be enough to devour the aphids & gnats. Just saw 3 yellowjackets feasting on the pepper plants so they must like aphids too.

Also read somewhere to spray the ladybugs with a mixture of soda pop & water; it makes their wings sticky for a week or so, so they don't fly away if the food disappears. Plus, their larvae are voracious eaters too.

Hope the ladybugs work--they are cheaper than a lot of the chemicals, oils & insecticidal soaps.

Mark...I heard that if you do use ladybugs , dont let them go in the morning...they'll just fly away.....let them go in the late afternoon near dark...they wont fly away and onece they have found the aphids they are likely to stay for a meal.....they might even like the place ! A cloudy/slightly rainy day would be ok too.........g
