It is several months before I see the first weeds and I already wondering how I'm going to control them. I would be interested hearing from any one that has used a synthetic weed pre emergent in the patch. What it was and how effective it was. Thanks

I haven't used any in the patch merely of fear. I used Surflan on countless beds containing both perennials and annuals without I'll effect. It was effective, but also is labeled for non-cropland use.

I used Preen (Treflan) several years ago on my green beans and tomatoes. It did a very good job on foxtail. But I had a broadleaf weed, hairy galinsoga, that thought it was fertilizer and really went crazy. I have been fighting it ever since.

We used Strategy when we had the pumpkin patch. It was some good stuff. Although the conditions had to be just right for application. Preen you are suppose to apply after the 5th leaf for pumpkins
