Rats showed up recently even though we have not had them in years. They are eating all my moms tomatoes all the leaves off her bean plants and occasionally taking bites out of squash plants. I was planning to get rid of them before my pumpkin started growing, but today I noticed a little chunk taken out of my main vine, and it exposed the cavity on the inside. I sprayed with hydrogen peroxide diluted in water. Is there anything else I should do? Was it just tasting the vine or will it be back to eat it? Will this affect the growth?
I got really angry when I saw that...

I am asking if there is anything I should be doing for the vine, whether this will affect the growth, and if pumpkin vines are usually on the menu for rats because I though it was just the fruit.
I already know how I am going get rid of it.

Keep it dry and sprinkle captan or garden sulfur on the chewed area. The vine is made up of 5 sets of vascular networks. So a chew area might have damaged a % of the fluid capacity. Might hurt your final weight but Prob. not fatal to the fruit.
