Haven't grown plants for a couple years, but have some nice ones going this year. Two started showing powdery mildew today. Whats the best stuff to use for that these days? Also, it seems like I remember mildew not being such a problem til closer to fall. Is it early for that or not so much?

I use eagle 20, but in my opinion there is nothing that will kill pm, most products just slow it down. air flow through out your plants will also help out.

if you have just a few leaves showing it, spray the affected leaves with peroxide, it will kill it. It will turn the leaves a little bit of a bronze color but they will not die. Then start using a rotation of fungicides to prevent re infections. We use a rotation of daconil, eagle, TKO, quintech, clearys 3336, actinovate, serenade max, neem oil, pristine and quadris And this year I stumbled onto some headline which is supposed to stop it, but can become resistant so only supposed to use it once.
Good luck

1) Quintec, active ingredient quonoxyfen, is listed as an excellent preventive, but not a curative. 2) Banner Maxx, active ingredient propiconazole, is listed as a systemic and both a preventive and curative. 3) Stylet Oil kills on contact by disrupting the cell walls and loosens the attaching mechanisms of the spores to the leaves. A long time grower gave me this recipe: per gal of water add 3 Tbsp Stylet Oil, 2 Tbsp baking soda, 1 Tbsp. Joy or Dawn dish washing liquid. Make sure you spray bottoms as well as tops of the leaves. "Try it....you'll like it!"

Also in the same vein as the stylet oil, I came across Mildew Cure the other day and bought some. It's a mix of cottonseed oil, corn oil, garlic oil, oleic acid, lauric acid, and sodium bicarb. http://www.safergro.com/products/plant-protection/mildew-cure/ Its been two days since I sprayed it and I think this stuff is really working, the leaves look much much better!
