Please see photos of 2015 plant growing in mature cow muck. Very strong growth but leaves with vein thin dark green surrounded by band of yellow. Yellow leaf edges also. Treated with Epsom Salts (mixed with watering 'system' for possible magnesium deficiency but no apparent benefit. Soil on the alkaline side. Can't seem to match the photos up with any other examples. Any ideas anyone? Thanks! (Two) pics at: https://picasaweb.google.com/104476455610709709688/PumpLeaves?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCLOdsLOxhNyFXQ&feat=directlink

Thanks to the grower that sent me this link to check out...
It is hard to say the likely cause. I will say that I have known some plants to just produce this yellowing color. Based on growers input I know the 1770 Leiber has increased odds for producing this. Here is a post to some information...

I can tell you the images you have are not consistent with Mg, N, Fe, Cu, Ca, P, or K deficiencies so it is most likely not a nutrient deficiency. Nematodes are a real possibility that most growers forget about or do not even consider. If you can provide more information I can do my best to try and offer a diagnosis.

Thank you Matt that's really useful to confirm about the appearance not being consistent with the deficiencies mentioned. I'll research nematodes, I had no idea. There is not much more to be said about conditions here, I give some mycorrhiza at the start, use rainwater exclusively to water which is done regularly according to conditions, pepped up just a bit with a balanced fertilizer and piped to the plant main root. I spray against powdery mildew and against blackfly but the pattern of the yellowing does not match the spraying, which is effective. Plants are prone to abort fruit and the stem split on the best one. I'll be adding some aluminium sulphate and moss peat and sulphur to get the ph down and keep it down at 6.5. I have three seed types so we'll see if it was a bit genetic. The polytunnel is up and successional sowing just about to start in the kitchen(UK)! Any suggestions very welcome. Thanks again. Ron
