I know some have mentioned it but growers beware of the insect onset this year. I treat my seedlings with Imedicloprid ( Merit) when they are in pots and again when I transplant them. I have noticed a carpet of dead cucumber beetles under my plants this week. I have never seen so many this early. I am also already finding dead squash bugs and that is two weeks or so earlier than normal. I am expecting SVB to arrive early also so am on the lookout. Looking like a bad bug year so far.

Foliar spray Bifethrin to repel them from landing...Merit alone will kill the squash bugs but they may have already infected your plant. You can apply both at foliar time once a week.

Orangeneck (Team HAMMER)

Eastern Pennsylvania

This has been a strange year, I have not seen a single bug on or around any of my plants. I haven't even sprayed yet.

I haven't seen any bugs around my plants yet either . Hope it stays that way. I haven't sprayed yet but I'm ready.

Same as Orangeneck here (I have sprayed though), but I am not complaining. I never seem to get the cucumber beetle and squash bug pressure the guys in the northeast do. Vine borers are my #1 enemy here since they have multiple cycles compared to up North and a contact spray is irrelevant with them. You guys west of the Rockies are lucky you don't have them.

About a week ago, my plants got swarmed by cucumber beetles. I'm still finding a few new beetle carcasses every morning.

Yes, odd year here in western NY. Lost a few great plants very early to corn maggots which had never been much of a problem here. I have not seen a single cucumber beetle which is hard to believe. I have seen a few squash bugs in soil and have applied Biifen, warrior and merit.
