have three plants going. all looked good. than yesterday after a long drought got an inch of rain.today my 1744 has yellowing leave tips.frist thing I thought was mag deficency but have been applying mag weekly.other two plants look good. noticed this on my cucumbers too.this couldn't be yellow vine? ya think? thanks paul

Hi Paul-

Do you have any pictures you can share? Mg is more to occur in the older leaves.

Are their any pumpkins pollinated? (Any aborts?)

Paul, sometimes the lack of water and then a quick rain storm can create the presence of leaf yellowing. If this were just pumpkin related, maybe the cause could be the vine borer. See link -

You mention the cucumbers are showing the signs as well. Sometimes nutrients such as magnesium are in the soil, but unavailable. If you have humic acid powder try to begin a schedule of adding this to your soil every 6-8 weeks. I saw this in the book, "How to Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins The All Organic Way". My cukes have been doing much better since I started this treatment. I also recommend a soil test possibly with Western Labs. See link - http://www.westernlaboratories.com/
Other issues related to leaf yellowing maybe an iron deficiency, but that is more due to nutrients leaching out of the soil by over watering which I think would not be your issue.

I typically rotate crops each year to reduce any possibility of transferring these issues from the soil back into new seedlings. Finally, I do not add any squash, pumpkin, or cucumber debris to my compost because sometimes the virus and bacterial diseases overwinter even in the composted material. I hope some of this helps.
