I cant stop the slight leaking due to the tear on Shannons
stem. It hardens one day then leaks a little the next day.
Ive been spraying on a sulfer fungicide to stop bacteria. I moved Shannon slightly left ( in the direction of the tear) to try to stop the leaking completely. She's still growing steadily at about 2 inches in circumference a day despite all of her setbacks over the last 8 months. I hope I can keep her going!

Oozing and leaks are very common at this point in the game. Keep treating them and as long as the pumpkin is still putting on poundage, don't worry!

Kilr,

I have a new vine thats about 6 feet long that is growing right out of the base of the stump. Would this new vine be adding energy to the stump and the pumpkin, or would it be taking away energy from the pumpkin. Should I cut it?

The repostioning of Shannon has stopped the leak for now.

i suffered a small oozing crack on the pumpkin stem 3 days ago. scratched off the soft material around the crack, applied daconil fungicide straight from the bottle and
placed a small fan in front of it. appears to have stopped the weeping. i'll probably remove the fan tomorrow and monitor from there. good luck

Or should i put soil over it to cause it to root... which would ad energy to the Pumpkin I think?

i'm currently encouraging new growth at the stump to make up for the tired early growth that has yellowed and withered. sort of experimental i guess. so much early growth has withered, broken, or been pruned, there's plenty room for couple new leaves to take their place. i won't let these vines run too far, for fear of robbing plant energy !

Duff has a point there, if you remove all new growth, all you're left with in September is a bunch of "old leaves". It may not hurt to have some new growth to help bolster the pumpkin later on!

Well, Ill let it grow then, but Im covering up the first 3 feet of it with dirt as I think this will add additional rooting to the main pumkin inflow at the stump.
