Found this great article on soil solarization techniques and benefits. Its a good read. So many benefits! Its cheap, effective, and will control nemotodes (most), weeds (many), and some really nasty soil born pathogens that are otherwise very difficult to eliminate. Its worth a read:

Problem is to be effective in areas like Northern USA or Southern Canada. You need to do it during prime growing season.

Yeah for sure. Even here that is the optimal time frame. June through August.
