A few weeks ago I noticed a little pool of clear jelly like stuff right below one of my vines that was about 6 inches from my biggest pumpkin. I rub my finger on the bottom and knows the little hole. I got some advice from someone who said they didn't know what would cause it but they said make sure the vine is not covered with dirt so it would dry out. And that I did and I didn't notice any more problems. Then today when I got home from work I looked over towards my pumpkin and seeing a pool of the clear ooze and I look and there is about A6 inch crack at the bottom of my pumpkin and I kind of Doug all the most out of it and could almost stick my finger inside of the pumpkin through a hole about the size of a quarter and I could actually feel a seed inside of there. Does anyone know what this could be? And what I could do to preserve the pumpkin? Even if I take it off the vine so it will not go bad so I could at least display it

Once a hole goes into the cavity its finished, it will rot on the inside, plus it would be disqualified at a weigh off .
If there was a hole in the vine it may have been from a Squash Vine Borer and it caused it to start rotting

I have several stink bombs sitting in my patch right now. Don't wait to long to get that out of the patch.

I already picked it. And I know the hole in the vine may have been a squash borer but I'm saying there was actually a bag hole in the bottom of my pumpkin

I did think a mouse or rat could have did it. Just wanted to see if anyone else had this exact problem. Thank you so much for your advice.
