the past couple summers i have used moth balls around my patch. i've had no problems with mice or small rodents. after i have a gourd on i will sprinkle around it about 2 feet away in a circle and space the moth balls 10-15 inches apart. a few days before i set my seedlings out i sprinkle them around the outside of my fence . has anyone else tried this before with any luck or are my cats better hunters then i thought. thanks, rick

Moth balls are commonly used by pumpkin growers around their pumpkins. I have used them just about every year since I started growing. I have never used them around young plants though. They stink really bad, I can see why the mice and voles want to stay away from them.

In the past used them to deter skunks from the yard by placing around the tree line. It worked well until the rain washed the away.

My cats obliterate the vole population. I don’t need moth balls. They leave their kills on the deck for my acknowledgement and praise every few days.

I have used moth balls for years. I don't have a cat but put small amounts of cat food on the back deck. The neighbourhood cats come to my yard feed and prowl the flower beds and garden. Even squirrels are hesitant to enter my yard. Jim

I had a large trash can with half of a box of mothballs in the bottom, after winter was over there was a huge mouse nest in there too. I still use them around my pumpkins.
