I mentioned on an earlier post that the stump on one of my big max plants had started to rot. I cut off all the vines leading from it hoping that the main would survive, but i noticed today that the main is slowly turning yellow. there are no pumpkins that have set on this plant. Should i just go ahead and yank the whole plant? Since my patch has limited growing area the extra space may help my other plants. What do you Diehards think?

No pumpkins set on it.....September 6th or so....a chance of a fungal problem...? Yank the plant and dispose of the vine off site....don't compost it or till it in....many say burn it. Don't want to risk the chance of further infection or infection of next years plants......2 cents please !...G

As long as you remove the plant completely you will have no problem for next year. 2 years ago my plants had bacteria wilt real bad. I removed everything from the patch. The next year I grew a 378 lber in that same spot. The weight on the 378 was after it set in the garage for 40 days waiting for the show.
So if everything is removed from the patch BEFORE & I stress BEFORE the vine has a chance to decompose you should have no problem next year.....Paul
