I put a pumpkin into the ground, and a few days ago i noticed it looked sad, and wilty, looking closely, i saw a small crack, tthat went with the length of the vine, for about 3 inches, and i was wondering how to save it, and have it grow better.

If your referring to the stump, I would use a back up. If it has vined out with secondaries coming off the main with a split past the primary secondary, cut the main and use a secondary as the new main. They can grow with a split but not as well and it opens up the stem to other problems.

All splits and cracks should be dusted with sulpher powder to help heal it quicker and get it to scab over..I don’t think we’ve ever had a vine that didn’t have some kind of split somewhere so don’t be too concerned.. this is the time(northeast) to plant back-ups depending on deciding factors. You determine those. Good luck...I promise it starts to get more fun in a few weeks.

The plant was growing slow, so i culled it. I planted another one instead. Also, the split was 2 inches above the base, so couldnt have cut it off, and retrained secondary vines. Also, i know it will get fun, but i dont think it will eb for a while, because i only just started burying vines, and the plants are only between2 and 3 feet, so will be a while.

I think for most of us they can never grow quick enough at this point..but we’re also at a time where a week makes a huge difference...good weather heared our way Grower!!...they’ll pick up....don’t do anything drastic at this point....it’s just a plant.

I wasnt planning on killing it. I have been into growing 3 yeats now, and i have killed 4 plants, due to rookie mistakes, last year it was too much fertilizer, this year it was trusting the weather man to tell the truth....
