I noticed some post on Merit and Bifrin. I recently moved from another state where I held a restricted chemical license and had no problem purchasing what I needed on the farm but have been out of AGs for a while. Are the above mentioned available at home stores or do I need to make the long trip to where my license is current to purchase. Also anything special folks put under their AG to keep it from rotting while growing. Thanks

Farmers and licensed individuals are definitely going to have a broader and better variety of effective pesticides to use. Each state is different and has different laws concerning specific pesticides. For example in NY state Merit is not sold in stores. With that being said I do believe their are still many good chemicals available to those who don't have a license. A good systemic fungicide that you can get at home depot for example would be immunox for a contact Daconil is very good. For insects Spectracide works very well. (It is a synthetic pyrethroid like bifenthrin. A lot of guys buy their pesticides online and that will greatly expand what you can buy. Mail order companies may be able to ship pesticides to you in KY. I bet you can have bifenthrin shipped if you order from a place like this. https://store.doyourownpestcontrol.com/bifen-it In CT they are very strict about mail order pesticides and what you can get through the mail or with out a license. Many other states are not.

As for what to put under your pumpkin the old standby that growers used back in the day was sand. Most growers now choose to use a product called pulp mill fabric. Go to the equipment for sale section on the message boards. The last post I saw was from back in March. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/msgboard/ViewThread.asp?b=2&p=678688

Hey thanks so much I did swing by a nursery and found some of the chemicals mentioned. Many were similar to what I use one field pumpkins but just not the same strength. Thanks again!

Yeah they really "water them down" for retail use.
