Hello! This is my first year attempting to grow giant pumpkins and also my first problem. I planted AG seeds from Dill the last week of June and have 6 nice pumpkins with circumferences from 50 to 74 inches. My next to largest suddenly developed a sizable split (about 4" long and 1.5" wide at the bloom end. I've surgical taped a plastic sheet over the split to seal out bugs/air etc. Is there any hope? suggestions? It was growing..should it be picked? Thanks!

If the split opens into the cavity, then the pumpkin will start to rot from the inside. Try inserting a piece of straw into the crack to see if it goes all the way though. If so, it's done.
