Ok I guess I have to beleve it, I have Tobacco Ring Spot Virus. It's on everyone of my prize melon plants and soon to be on my pumpkin plants. ok, now Can I stop it or will it just take over? Any Help, I don't want my season to be already over before it starts......

HELP!!!

Jeff,

There are no virus control options. If it hasn't already spread, then *carefully* remove the infected plants. Burn them. And sterilize all tools, shoes, etc with 5-10% bleach before going into the uninfected area. Wash your hands & clothes too. Seriously.

nope it already Spread to everything besides trees. I had it at the end of the season last year but it was not that bad. just a few leafs and thats that. But this was before I knew what it was.

I will just see if I can pull off this year. better then doing nothing huh?

If there is nothing left to lose, then try flooding the roots with a potassium phosphite solutions. That or Aliette or Subdue mixed with Thiophanate-methyl.

If the plants continue to decline, I would strongly recommend either fumigationg with Basamid before September ot else find a new patch for 2005.

Thats just it the plants look fine thats why I am not really ready to jump on and nuke everything.

The only real signs I got the Virus is yellow rings on my new plants. They are not that bad and the plants should take off before the Virus gains anything...

But you never know, this was going off last year, this year it could take off like a rocket and kill everything.

Steve your like the master at all this stuff, you ever deal with any Tobacco Virus before in your line of work, or have any Idea of most outcomes?

Many things have similar symptoms without a tissue sample you can't be 100% positive... get it done as soon as possible with fresh tissue. Good Luck! Diseases are tough!
