Hi there, today we pulled the stump of an AG plant and discovered those funny growths on the roots near the stump (which certainly haven´t been fun at all for the plant). What is it, where does it come from? Info from those of you who have had made similar observations, or from those who actually know what it is, is highly appreciated.

I think you have root knot nematodes.

Thanks heaps :) So far, from my own gardening things I only knew them from carrots. Haven´t seen any sign of their activity in pumpkin roots yet. Next year there will be some marigolds growing next to the pumpkin plant, I´m sure :) Today I´ll dig up some of the main roots of that plant for a couple of ft from the stump area, want to find out if the nematodes had been in the soil of the plant site only (perhaps contained in the compost I had added there) or if it´s an issue of greater parts of the patch. If the former is the case, I will just remove a couple of wheelbarrows full of soil from that plant site.
