I weeded by hand and used a tiller between the rows of my field pumpkins until the vines started to cross each other. My AG patch looked better than the field pumpkins since I spent more time in there. My question is, I had a lot of Lambs quarter weeds in the field pumpkin patch since I could not get in there without stepping all over the vines. Is there a chemical or natural weed killer to help in this area? I have more than an acre of pumpkins, so hand weeding is almost out of the question. Just preparing for next season. Tom

Couple ideas come to mind. With such a wide area either hay or mulch come to mind to keep some wind blown seeds from easily germanating. Certainly off-season I would turn it over if you don't already. Unfortunately even the smartest weedkillers can't differentiate between the broad leaf pumpkin and true broad leaf weeds.
Plastic is another suppressor of weeds but it doesn't allow the plant to anchor itself unless you cut holes in it by hand at strategic spots to defend against wind but then again your back to the "by hand" problem. Good luck,
Gary
