I've been seeing them the past few days, maybe because it's raining so much. They have always stayed out of the patch until today!! No damage thank god. Not 1 slug on the plants yet! Please someone tell me how to keep these things out of my patch. They are starting to crawl up my silt fence. I have been waking up an hour early every day to weed and to check things out, also I would walk the perimeter of the patch and squash about 25 every morning for the past few days. What can I use to deter these pests from my babies..

There are several control strategies available.

Trap in shallow saucers of stale beer buried to the brim.

Exclude entry by ringing the entire patch with salt or diatemaceous earth.

Treat with a slug bait like Sluggo, Escargo, etc.

Hand pick & destroy. You can find the during the day hiding under "stuff" like walking boards, rocks, etc.

No method 100% effective all the time. More rain equals more work since all methods listed are negated by heavy rain.

Feed them Escar-Go from Gardens Alive or a new player on the field from Germany called Sluggo. May be the same. The eat and they get a sick belly and quit eating. That's it they dehydrate and die. The product leave a trace of iron and perhaps nitrogen not to mention the bacteria from their dead bodies.

The pellets must be watched. As reported they can wash away in heavy or persistant rain.

Walmart has a chemical item for the same purpose. I would not wait to take action. Head on into Walmart or equal store and get some pellets right away. Ya still have to renew the pellets and watch cause they eat them all up if there are a lot of critters.
