Well I blew a gasket today. I was out in the patch minding my own affairs, burying vines and pinching terts. Then while turning over a shovel full of dirt there they were! Grubs! feeding on my tender pumpkin plant roots! Another turn of the shovel and there were more. The 1385 Daletas was under attack! This could not be tolerated. I had sprayed some triazicide earlier this yr and watered it in to no avail. Well this time I applied triazicide at 3 1/2 times the recomended rate. I reasoned that these buggers were feeding at a depth of about 3 times that of ones that ruin your grass. I used the hose end sprayer and applied about 7 oz to 1100 sqft. concentrating on the area of the plants covering about 400 sqft. I would estimate that I applied about 1 oz per 100 sqft in and around the plants. I then turned on the sprinkler for 2 hrs. Time will tell how effective this method is and how much dammage I may have done to my new growth. What do you guys think?

Easy there Pilgrim.....Triazicide is Lambda-cyhalothrin which is a synthetic pyrethroid. And the aren't very good at controlling grubs. Thats why you missed them earlier.

Not much is labeled for grubs in a vegetable garden. Just Diazinon & Sevin are legally labeled & they're soon to be goners.

A preventive application of Merit now will control the brood to hatch later this summer. But Merit only kills large grubs if you wack them repeatedly with the bag.

I would use Trichlorfon (Dylox) if it were legal, but I could never recommend you break the law like I wouldn't do. No way.

Thanks for the info Tremor. Your knowlege of pesticides amazes me. I hope I didn't do too much dammage to my plants. Triazicede was all I had at the time, other than malithion. I really stinks that they list on the bottle that their product kills grubs and don't bother to tell you that you have to crush them with the bottle.
