I load up on this stuff before I go out in the patch in the evening, otherwise I get mauled by the oversized Wisconsin parasites that try to live off of my blood. They are viscious, and they are everywhere, as I live in the woods. Anyway, I was just wondering if the Deet (the active ingredient in bug repellent) is of any harm to plants... I spray it on pretty liberally to keep the monster sized buzzers away from me.

I think I read somewhere that mosquitos find their bloodsources by detecting CO2. Deet is supposed to be the only thing out there that significantly repells them. Its toxic to humans (the "small" amounts we spray on ourselves aren't supposed to do any harm). Don't know if its harmful to plants. Have you tried spraying a spot on the edge of a leaf?

Deet won't hurt the plants that I'm aware of. But the propellants in those aerosol cans sure will. So too might the carriers in the pump stuff. Let it dry before touching the plants & you should be OK.
