Hiya' Growers! My question today is what could be causing the leaves to yellow and burn on the edges? This is occuring near the middle of the plant. Right around the stump area. Particulars: I don't fertilize a lot. I still have tremendous vine growth and currently have 3 pumpkins the size of soccer balls. I feel that perhaps that I have over watered recently. Should I prune the dead and dying growth?

I am anxiously awaiting a reply to this question myself. I have the EXACT same symptoms on my plant as well, Fred. I just logged on and came to the Bigpumpkins website to ask the exact same thing.
My particulars are the same as yours. Most of the yellowing and leaf burning is near the stump. I live in southern Ohio and in the last couple of weeks we have had a couple very heavy rains. I too am wondering if I should prune of the dead leaves and wht i can do to halt this in it's tracks.

I know that the leaves in the center of the plant will be the first to show signs of age. They are the oldest leaves and will start to look ragged. I too have some poor looking leaves in the center of both of my plants. I THINK this is normal. Hopefully someone with more growing experience will give us a clue.

Hi guys! Kilr here. Are you guys using a fungicide like daconil? If not ,you should be with all the wet weather we've had. Your leaves may have a little "burn" from insecticide, but what you are experiencing sounds like "old leaves". Just prune them off and everything should be O.K.!

okay everyone, take a deep breath, and exhale with a sigh of relief! this is totally normal. as Ken said, these are the first leaves to show signs of age. toward the end of the season, a good portion of your patch's will probably look like this. the first time i saw this i must confess, i freaked out! but after talking with some more experienced guys, i learned that this is normal. it has been happening to all my plants since i started.
