I came across an article that says a 10% to 30% milk solution will control PM.

It works by altering the pH of the leaf surface into the higher ranges where the causal pathogen cannot be productive. It's the same exact pricipal as Baking Soda. I've played with Baking Soda but never milk. Either would have to be applied quite frequently. I should think someone who can spend the time required in the patch to make the frequent application could do well with this approach.

last week i visited a pumpkin grower that used it on his plants. leaves looked great. i tried it on mine when i got home. i'll be using it as my main fungicide for the leaves next year. 10% sloution of half&half milk. cheapest effective fungicide you will ever find.

Down from milk feeding a pumpkin to defend PM on your plant:-) Sounds good and I read the same with 10% solution over here but you have to apply it more often than store bought stuff. Raw cow milk should be used, not the watery stuff you can buy at Walmart.

wow, that is cool. I am going to try it, hey now at least every time someone askes me if I inject my plants with milk I can just say nope I spray them with it! So tired explaining the milk theory!

Baking Soda doesn't perform any where near as well as conventional fungicides. But it does work.

Regardless of the material used, we have to start before the disease starts & keep on top of it for as long as disease pessure exists.

The hideous thing this year here in CT is that PM started in the second week of June & hasn't let up even once. So thi would be the 10th week of spraying conventional fungicides or about 20 twice weekly Baking Soda sprays.

Next year I might just build a multi-tipped spray system on the patch soil aiming up to the leaf bottoms.

I did the milk thing 2 days ago. I added it to my Molasses, seaweed & fish. The plants seemed to like it, I don't know maybe just a coincidence but my pumpkin grew 15lbs the next day. It has been gaining about 10 lbs a day before that.
