Sadly I had to cut my Tubby from the vine today. His small cracks from last night turned into a fatal total opening up of the blossom end this morning. You could put your whole hand into the inside of the pumpkin. He finished with a circumference of 114" and total OTT inches of 265". Thanks everbody for your support, I'm not giving up I still have three others on that plant and some more small ones on the Mongeon 300.

Amy, I am so sorry to hear about Tubby, I hope his brothers and sisters will be able to fill the place in your heart that Tubby left there. Good luck on the others.

Hi Amy,

We too, are sorry about your big pumpkin. Mother Nature has dealt you a considerable blow. I guess we have to look at these things as a learning experience. Some things just weren't meant to be. We can tell by your postings that you still have time to bring along another big pumpkin. Who knows, maybe your biggest one yet is still on the vine.

Keep up the good work!

Amy,
Sorry to learn about the demise of Tubby. There is still plenty of time for siblings to become HUGE. Keep your chin up, life is a learning experience. I feel for for you, as all giant pumpkin growers do. Hang in there!

Thanks to all for your support. You are a great bunch of people. I'm not giving up. Tubby was an early pollination and with his stem problem I probably should have culled him but I got so attached. I'll put the last days story on my diary in a day or two, Its actually a funny story involving my dad, alot of knocking on my door early in the morning and a very large caulking gun. Good luck all, This is part of pumpkin growing and we have to expect it but its alot nicer to have people that actually understand.

Thanks for sharing the story of Tubby. It helps a new grower like me learn what to expect and how to handle it like a pro. All the best to the rest of the pumpkins
