I guess a grower profile page would be nice but how is that going to stop spammers? If they want, all they have to do is join the community and still have access to the addresses. I never had any spam not even from any of the legitimate people who help us with their products from this community.

Rootbeermaker, often those who spam a message board are not actually individually targetting the board. It's usually some sort of program that scans the web for vulnerable forums and posts to them. For example, we recently had a problem at the GVGO site with some inappropriate material posted as comments in the photo gallery. All it took to close the vulnerability was to disable commenting for guests.
So, a profile page may not stop spammers 100%. But, the more obstacles that you can place in front of them without compromising usability for your real members, the better. The likelihood of a spammer joining the site is actually pretty low since most of BP seems to be custom built. Spammers tend to target the biggest audience. Just like most viruses are built for Windows and not Mac, most spammers target commonly used website technology and don't bother with all of the custom jobs.
You may have also received spam which was a result of having your email on this site without knowing it. Some spammers have programs that harvest email addresses from the web. After they have it, who knows what they do with it. The email that you get could come from them, or whoever they sell/give their list to.

crammed thanks for the explanation. Maybe I did receive some spam because of this site. We may never know. That is why I have a hotmail address listed here. I get tons of spam on that address everyday. That is why I use that one. I don't know if anyone here has my main email address, Maybe Doc I don't remember. I would give my email address to most here but I have elected to use hotmail because of spam etc. Heck some members have my home address.

LOL preloaded. Then I guess you know how many spam I get. But that is the reason I started the hotmail account, so I do not get it in my evceryday account. But in the past I did have acounts in other free email poviders such as yahoo.net, usa.net and dontgotmail.com and none of them had spam like hotmail did. dontgotmail.com had the least (almost none)
