just wondering what are the different ways to germinate seeds, and how successful u have been. I want to start practicing so i dont destroy my good seeds

I've been practicing germinating lately with the advanced style removing the shell and soaking in wet paper towel Seeds are consistantly germinating within 24 hrs (with heat)
Then i pot it and grow until first true leaf.
5 for 5 so far!

shiznit, I tried that same method, but nothing after 48 hours on heat. Might just be old seeds, I got some good test seeds coming in the mail so, we'll try it again, and maybe a couple of different ways.

The first time I tried it I tried 3 different spots.I used very small tupperware with a few small holes punched in the lids, to let some heat escape. I put wet paper towels in them and checked their temps (through the holes) at the end of the day. Just to make sure the temps were about 85*
I then put the seeds in. I found the one above my monitor germinated within 24 hrs. My desk has a shelf just above my monitor..thats my spot. tried a few more times and it's been the same every time. Problem is I have to keep the computer on and disable screen savers and energy saving options (turn off monitor after 30 mins)

Hmmmm...Maybe I was getting them too much heat. I wrapped them in a damp paper towel and put them in a ziplock bag, and put them on a waterbed heater set at 85 degrees, maybe they got a little too warm?? I can't put them anywhere my wife's computer, she threw a FIT. :) Some people just dont understand. lol

If you have a Gas stove just put your starting pots in the oven, keep them moist and the seeds will sprout in about four days

When you germinate and put your seeds on top of something measure the temp under the seeds first. If your are restricting airflow like on top of a monitor it could raise the temp. I measured the temp on my satilite reciever and it was 84 for several days. I put a baggie with seeds on it and they didn't sprout. So I measured under the bag and it was 100. oops Try to keep it close to 85.

Good call BillF. If using a baggy, try a small fish or reptile thermometer from a pet shop inside the bag. As Bill has discovered it get's very hot in there!
