Does the length of time soaking affect the time it takes to sprout? First round of seeds I started, I soaked for 6 hrs. and 60 hrs after planting they broke soil. Second round, soaked 4 hrs. and took 80 hrs. to break soil. Are the two related? I also put the second round of seeds in the dirt flat to try and shed seed coat, could that be the reason for longer emergence time? Thanks Peace Wayne

I think the emersion time is just a simple and good guide, to give you timing as, to when the patch is ready, to receive the seedlings.

Different seeds begin, to grow differently. All the elements could make a day or two, of difference, to emersion. Up to four or five days later it's, to the patch.

Those elements are first the different seed, moisture and humidity and temperature. All can modestly effect growth.

I see no difference that has a functional value. Therefore you adjust the seed planting, to your average time, of emergence. This enables you, to go, to the patch, with the seeding within another four to six days.

It is generally believed that the prompt placement, in the patch, is much more important than how you manage the time or various ways, of getting them, in the pot and up to emergence.

Try to get them in at least round half gallon ice cream containers so the roots meet little or no resistance during the first eight days or less, in the seed pot.

Larger pots are fine but more difficult, to set out, when the time comes, to dig planting holes, in the patch.
