When I start my seed in my peet pot, how much should I water before the plant comes up? Should the soil always be moist on top or should it dry out before watering again? If I were to error, what's better, too much water or too little. Thansks for the help, Jim

you want to keep the soil moist but not wet.
to much water will rot the seed.

try practicing on few seeds that you don't care
about. experience is a great teacher.

I agree with Gordon (previous replier). The amount of watering is a direct correlation of the temperature you are maintaining and the amount of moisture above the ground. If you are using a closed or semi-closed canopy certainly much less. I kept mine uncovered for fear of mold and I watered generously everyday. Results: over 80% success.

An equal challenge is the amount and type of light once they poke through! Reaching plants will result in unsuable plants if they grow > 4" or so before their secondary leaves. Planting these long stems is not advisable.
