I thought I did everything I should have, but none of the 12 seeds I started have sprouted. 6 days now. I filed, soaked overnight in a fish/seaweed blend, and planted in 90* soil. I'll try another method this weekend.

Hey Pappy don't give up on those yet. If you started them the way I think you did ( planting directly in peat pot) you could still have 3 days or more before they come up.
The quick results you here on this site is sometimes is just when the root tip shows & then they plant in pots & thus they come up quicker.
In the past when I put the seeds directly in the ground after filing it would take 7-10 days before I would see sprouts coming out of the ground.............Paul

Pappy,
It has been 4 days since I planted the 968 in the peat pot, the same way as you did (I think) except the soil temp. is cooler, around 70-80 with a lot of bottom heat. It showed root growth after 80 hrs, but hasn't broken the soil yet either. Last year my 869 Calai took about 8 days to germinate, so you should be ok. Try to keep the soil temp. a little lower, but a temp. of 90 in he surrounding air is great.

I agree pappy, in my experience the seeds could take anywhere from 1 week to 12 days to break through the surface. For that reason, I'm a believer in the advanced seed starting method. Keep hangin in!

Pappy,
Last year I planted AGs on June 1st and one sprouted on June 8th. All of the others sprouted by June 12th, so I think you are fine.

Of course, when I planted these last year I just followed the instructions on the seed packet(catalog purchase). This year is going to be different. I'm going to follow the advice of the many people from this site and use the advanced seed starting...Tom

Thanks to all for your input! Now my question is, if the temp dropped in the peat pot soil about 20* for 24hrs or so (lol) will that effect germination?

It may slow things down a bit, but shouldn't have any lasting effect.

the first time i ever tried growing AGs, i put them in little 2.5" peat pots and had the very-inconsistent heat
from the register in my room to germinate my 700+ and 800+
Holland run of the mill seeds with--a week went by and so i ordered other seeds--meanwhile, i gave up on the ones i had tried to start first--long story short (yeah, right)--they
sprouted when the soil was almost completely dry, set aside
(near) the trash...like 12 days later--so i grew the little piggies after all---i think temp. and moisture had to line up just right for these particular seeds this time around....
so don't discard them, but try a new batch and these others
might still come up for you, if you set them aside and let them dry out-----hope this works for you!

I've filed and am getting my backups ready. I'm not giving up on my first choices because of what ya'll have said.Soil temp is back to 90* and I'm patient. Thanks!

Out of the twelve 2 have sprouted 625.4 Desrosiers and 455.4 Andrews. I have to get a few more going!

Having planted 25 all the same day in peat moss pots and miracle grow seed starter mix AND having them all on 85 degree heating pads - I just had a seed germinate after 13 days when all others were well on their way to secondary leaves! The seed (from an 820 pumpkin) was stored and treated like all his/her other buddies.
I might dig one us just to investigate the integrity of the seed and look for trouble or....good news that hasn't shown itself yet.
