keith: i made mine out of old windows complete with hinged tops, glass is very easy to come by, if you go to your local glass/window replacement place you will most likely find piles of glass windows that are to be thrown out. that's where i get mine.

I assume you want something to go over you plants.
1 1/2 to 2 ft lengths of rebar 12 ft pvc pipe 12 x 50 ft (100) platic sheeting "X" pvc joints
take one pipe to get the height and lenght you desire. hammer in the rebar leave about 6 inches to place the pipe over. place a hoop every 4-6 ft- with a "X" joint right at the top and a cross pipe for stability. you'll need to stabilize the ends too. with another joint and pipe or rope to a stake in the ground. cover with the pastic- dig a trench to bury the ends of the pipes and plastic or run a strip of duct tape on the plastic edge and nail through tape into 1x2 wood strips to hold edge of plastic down during wind. be sure to cover the ends also or they wont help much.

Here is a website that shows how to build a hoop house. http://www.rainyside.com/resources/hoophouse.html You can look at this and get an idea on how to build a hoop house. It doesn't have to be just like what you see, you can make changes and come up with your own way to build it. Thomas

I build really simple greenhouses almost exactly like Gordon explained with PVC pipe and plastic sheeting. I posted a picture last spring. Take a look my Pumpkinut picture, I think it labeled "plants in minigreenhouse" and that might help you out... Joe P.

I've just started building mine, and let me tell you it can be done cheap. just get some 12 x 50 4 mil plastic, and cut it in half, then use a hot glue gun, and you have a 24 x 25 piece of plastic. it bonds perfectly, and won't pull apart. good enough to get the soil warmed up quick. pvc works great for support, and is only about 1.50 for 10 foot sections around here.

Keith, I've built mine out of 2"x2" lumber.Their 4'wide x 6' long x 4' high. Staple your plastic on and your all set. Need to put in a venting system to keep air temps from getting to hot. In northern Minnesota, I need to add a heat lamp inside to keep evening temps above 50 degrees F for maximum growth. These will last you for years. Pumpkinpiper

I build my "Holland style" mostly with the re-bar, PVC, and 6 to 10 mill regular plastic (the green house UV stuff is way to spendy)for a cover. I put a pookie little 60 to 100 watt I/R light above it at night in early season to add heat. Boom away they go!!!

Keith, in the "HOW TO" section of this site there are 2 articles that may help. They are "How to build a Hoop house" and "How to build a simple cold frame"

Quick and easy to get them out of the house? Buy a large flat of birthday cake, eat it all in one sitting with a huge glass of cold milk and keep the container. It will supply you with a plastic base for water run off and a 6-8" "roof". Run out of room? Buy another, they'll make more.
