1/3 pertlite...1/3 vermiculite..1/3 peat moss..works great and very easy to get a hold off. Mix in a little captan mix in this solution and works great.

I use Natural Beginnings seed starting mix from Gardens Alive. Has coir in the mix along with worm castings and mealworm guano. This mix has worked very well for me the last few years and I would not start a seed without it. Seedlings sprout faster and grow stronger and healthier. Seeds have higher germination rate than seeds started in other mixes. I use it for starting all my veggie and pumpkin seeds. All I add is a micronized Endomycorrhizal Inoculant from Bio/Organics it has 8 types with minimum 50 spores/cc.

1/3 pertlite 1/3 vermiculite 1/3 fine milled peat moss
Use the same container to measure equal volumes of each material. A one quart pitcher is good. I dump them into a clean 5 gallon bucket. Then us the same measuring pitcher to dump an equal quantity of warm water. Its messy but I use my hands to mix it all together. If you can squeeze more than a drop of water from a handful then it's too wet.

If you use equal parts perlite, vermiculite and peat moss, is it beneficial to add lime to adjust the pH. If so, how much lime should I add. Charlie

No lime. Perlite & vermiculite are already fairly neutral. The floral grades of fine milled Peat aren't acidic enough to matter for the short time the seedling will be constrained to the seed starting mix.

I found some bags of Bayer All in One potting soil at Lowes on clearance for $2.50 a bag. 16 quart bag was cheaper than seed starter or any other potting soil in the store. It has a low dose fertilizer, and low dose of Imaciplocrid(merit) already mixed in. I'm going to use it on some practice germinations I'm starting right now. I'll be posting in a dairy once I get going.
