A lot of the seeds from my 449 have little splits in the outer shell. I don't think they go through. I saw the same thing on one or two of the seeds in my collection.
Is this normal, will it affect the germination?

Jordan,
I have planted seeds with the cracks you describe without fail. Some of my own have exhibited the same cracks you describe. I've never seen a difference in the germination rate between those with and those without.

I dried down 3 groups of seeds at the same time and the seeds with the thicker coat have one lengthwise crack on one side. I'm thinking the thicker seed coat held a little more moister and dried a little too quick. Also I've never seen a white seed crack. it's always the brown ones. If you look at a white seed next to a brown seed they look the same except the brown ones have an extra brown coat around the seed. I would imagine a crack on the outside brown part wouldnt have any effect on germination.
